How to Track Target Prices (Including Target Circle Deals)
Target's pricing includes Circle member deals, cartwheel-style offers, and clearance cycles. Here's how to track Target prices and stack deals.
Target has a more layered pricing structure than most retailers. The sticker price you see isn't always the actual price you'll pay. Target Circle (their free loyalty program) adds a layer of member-only discounts, and Target runs clearance cycles on predictable schedules.
Here's how to track prices effectively and make sure you're actually getting Target's best price.
How Target Pricing Works
Regular price: The standard retail price. This changes less frequently than Amazon but does fluctuate during promotional events.
Target Circle deals: Target Circle is a free loyalty program. Enrolled members get access to targeted discounts, weekly Circle offers, and accumulate 1% back as a reward. Circle deals are applied automatically at checkout for enrolled members. They're not visible to non-members.
Cartwheel offers (now integrated into Circle): Previously a separate app, these weekly percentage-off deals on specific categories are now baked into Target Circle.
Target clearance: Target runs clearance on a predictable cycle. Items that haven't sold get marked down in stages: typically 30% off, then 50% off, then 70% off. Clearance timing varies by category but runs roughly with seasons.
When Target Prices Drop
Target's most predictable sale events:
Back-to-school (July to August): Target has a strong back-to-school presence. School supplies, backpacks, dorm items, and electronics see real discounts. This is Target's strongest annual sale window for these categories.
Black Friday / Cyber Monday: Target participates with competitive offers. Electronics, toys, and apparel are the strongest categories.
Circle Week (formerly Target Deal Days): Target runs its own Prime Day competitor, usually in July, with Circle member exclusives. It doesn't match the scale of Prime Day but has legitimate deals on Target-exclusive items and brand-name electronics.
End-of-season clearance: After each season, Target's clearance racks fill up. For clothing, decor, and seasonal goods, buying clearance at Target is often the best price available anywhere.
Target's Price Match Policy
Target price-matches with Amazon, Walmart, and several other major retailers. If you find a lower price at a competitor, Target will match it at the time of purchase. They'll also match a lower Target.com price at a Target store.
This is valuable in combination with price tracking: if you track an item at Amazon and it drops, check whether Target will match that price, especially if you prefer shopping in-store.
Tracking Target Prices
Target product URLs work in Slasher. Paste the URL and track the price over time to establish a baseline before you buy.
One nuance: Target Circle discounts are account-specific and may not be visible in a price tracking tool. The tracked price will be the publicly visible price before Circle discounts are applied. Factor in your expected Circle discount when evaluating whether the current price is worth it.
What Target Does Better Than Amazon
In-store pickup and same-day delivery: Target's fulfillment is genuinely competitive. If you want something today, Target's same-day delivery through Shipt often beats Amazon's delivery window.
Clothing and home goods: Target's private labels (Universal Thread, Threshold, Made By Design) aren't on Amazon. Clearance on these items is often excellent.
Toy selection: Target stocks toys well and their clearance cycles on toys can hit 70% off toward the end of a season.
